Run the Ridgeway Revenge, Half Marathon or 10K and take on the challenge of undulating miles set along Britain’s oldest path. Race or run part of the ancient trail walked by soldiers and herdsmen 5000 years ago. Experience the mystical Alfred’s Castle and classical Ashdown House set within the breathtaking natural beauty of the Wiltshire Downs.

HALF MARATHON COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Ridgeway Revenge starts on the Ridgeway at the junction with Ridgeway Farm and continues along the trail towards Foxhill for a steady 1-mile climb. As the trail starts to descend at Foxhill turn left to climb up to the top of Hinton Downs. With panoramic views of the Downs and Russley Park, enjoy the long sweeping descent to the bottom of Hinton Downs (3-mile point). Turn left onto the quiet lane, continue straight on through the gate (4-mile point) and across the fields to Botley Copse. After Botley Copse turn left, gradually climbing the footpath to upper wood, before descending towards the grounds of the historic Ashdown House (6-mile point). The beautiful 17th Century dolls-house will be on your right. Run through Swinley Down, alongside the iron-age hill fort of Alfred’s Castle until the footpath joins the Ridgeway (7.5 mile point). After approximately half a mile turn left to climb back up to Swinley Down. Bear right and continue over a couple of stiles to the top of Russley Downs for a breathtaking view over the Wiltshire countryside with a distant Ashdown House on the horizon. Then follow the ridge and take the chalk path descent leading onto the finishing mile. Follow the farm track back to a finish of cheering spectators at Ridgeway Farm.

10K COURSE DESCRIPTION
The 10K course follows the Half Marathon course for the first 3.5 miles. Turn left up the hill (signed Bishopstone) towards Russley Park instead of continuing through the field gate towards Ashdown. Continue straight up the small hill, along the lane and keeping the stables on your left. Follow the left hand bend towards the large manor house (formally Lord Rothchild’s riding stables), to take the steep right climb up to the top of Russley Downs. Follow the footpath along the top to join the final 1.5-miles of the Half Marathon route, turning right onto the chalk path descent and the finishing mile. Hopefully you will finish before the Half Marathon crowd and will stay on to enjoy a warm drink, fresh bacon sarnie/ pulled pork bap and/or homemade cakes while cheering them on!

10K Profile

“The Ridgeway Revenge is brilliantly undulating and there are some superbly good hills! In fact the hills make up over 25% of the course with the best uphill hitting 16.7%!”

“The trail is mostly off road. In “Best of the British Countryside” do expect some uneven ground. Please come prepared to enjoy a spectacular trail run and do wear appropriate footwear.”

“Signs, mile markers, marshals, water and sugary stuff will all be on hand along the course! Bring cheering spectators (the more the merrier) to Ridgeway Farm or Ashdown House/ Alfred’s Castle. At the finish we expect you to be smiling and of course there will be medals, although we can’t promise Tiffany!”
